Glasgow voted friendliest city in UK - Exterion Media and First Glasgow celebrate by wrapping city bus with a design by 10 year old, Isla Thoms
Glasgow has been voted the friendliest city in the UK, according to new research from Exterion Media’s award-winning national consumer panel work.shop.play., which reveals how urbanites feel about different cities across the UK.
The research is the launch of a year-long nationwide initiative from Exterion Media, Urbanology, designed to celebrate and promote key cities outside of London. Kicking off with Glasgow, it found that urbanites from across the UK believe the city has the friendliest citizens, outshining Newcastle (23%) and Liverpool (20.4%) which came in second and third place respectively.
Glaswegians also considered its friendly people the best thing about their own city, followed by the shops, culture and transport links.
To further mark the launch of Urbanology, Exterion Media invited primary school pupils from across Glasgow to take part in its Kids’ Wrapped Bus creative competition, launched in partnership with First Glasgow. Over 100 school children submitted colourful and creative designs depicting what they love about Glasgow, to be wrapped by Exterion Media around one of First Glasgow’s double-decker buses.
Isla Thoms, aged 10, from Glasgow Gaelic School (Sgoil Ghàidhlig Ghlaschu) was crowned the winner of the competition by a judging panel including Glasgow City Council, First Glasgow and Exterion Media. Isla’s bus wrap design features the River Kelvin as well as other Glasgow landmarks, such as Kelvingrove Museum and Kibble Palace. The wrapped bus will be live on the streets on Glasgow for four weeks from today.
In addition to her winning design being printed on the bus, Isla won a family day trip to the Glasgow Science Centre, as well as a special Glasgow Science Centre outreach visit for her school. The competition runners up were awarded ‘Science Passports’ to the Glasgow Science Centre.
