#StationStories - the Stratford edition

In the early 19th century, Stratford was an important transport hub with regular links into the centre of London. It seems not much has changed, with Stratford station now served by the London Underground, London Overground, Docklands Light Railway (DLR) and also National Rail.

So that Stratford station isn’t confused with Stratford-upon-Avon in Warwickshire, it is often referred to as Stratford London. The station opened in 1839 and is today owned by Network Rail.

Stratford station has a very high footfall with the most recent National Rail entry and exit figures ranking it as the 10th busiest station in London that is not in the central terminus.

Westfield Stratford shopping centre sits adjacent to the train station, with 80% of shoppers arriving on public transport according to Westfield - so no wonder the station is so busy! The centre opened on 13 September 2011 and now has approximately 280 stores and 70 restaurants, so there’s plenty to do.

With all these people visiting the station, it’s an ideal place for brands to reach audiences, most importantly urban audiences, who are in a shopping mind-set and open to be inspired to purchase.

But it’s not just the shops that bring people to the station. In 2012, Stratford station served as a central hub for the London Olympics and Paralympic Games and today the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park lies next to the shopping centre, acting as a reminder of this spectacular sporting event.
