Purpose of the role


Exterion Media is on a journey of transformation, from a poster advertising business to a digital media business powered by data.  Product is at the heart of this transformation.  The Head of Product Engineering and Development role is a new role that will provide focus and support for the product team.  You will be working alongside the Head of Capital Engineering Projects and fully supported by the UK assets Director ensuring we deliver a world class estate. This role is pivotal to our success.

  • Our goal is to operate a world class estate, with well designed and engineered product and first class project delivery.  
  • We are growing and have won new business and resigned existing contracts, with contracts signed there is associated capex spend required to ensure the revenues grow with the expectations and contract requirements.  The Head of Product Engineering & Technical is to provide needed focus to product delivery.  
  • The successful candidate will manage a team of product managers who deliver the install advertising assets for the UK business across Exterion Media’s franchise client base.  These products can be standard inventory (LCD) or large one off LED screens.
  • Exterion Media’s franchise partner’s estates includes National Rail, London Underground, Bus operators and Retail.  Across those estates are Digital (LCD and LED), Classic (Small Format and Large Format) and Paper panels.


The Head of Product Engineering & Technical will be responsible for the following:

  • Ensure Exterion Media has the required assets to support its growth and exciting evolution in to a Digital Media Business powered by data
  • Lead Product Engineering and Product Development for UK business across Digital, Paper and Bus assets
  • Provide an overview of all product activities, aligning to PMO requirements in reporting and delivery
  • Evaluate product considering the engineering, fabrication, systems architecture and installation processes for advertising infrastructure
  • To manage and develop the product team and drive enthusiasm and delivery
  • Drive professionalism and change, provide support to processes, consider standards and specifications to ensure product meets the business requirements (both technical and aesthetic requirements)
  • Promote productive challenge and question current rationales
  • Support UK Asset Director in product evaluation decisions and strategy

Measures of success

  • Successful integration of new product into the UK Business to the desired timescales.  These products include; 
  • Small format LCD (D6s)
  • Classic inventory (4, 6 and 12 sheet)
  • Large Format LED
  • Bus Product (both static and digital)
  • Continuously improve and develop existing assets to meet business needs
  • Comprehensive understanding of the market place, along with strong relationships with product suppliers
  • Promote the suppliers to be long term business partners with strategic alliances
  • Visibly change the perception of Assets into a ”can do and deliver” team.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage product development (existing and new) for the UK Business.
  • Plan and programme activities for the Product Engineering team
  • Work closely with PMO ensuing compliance with required reports and programme
  • Timely escalation of risks, clearly identified ensuring the risk does not evolve into an issue
  • Ensure the product streams are well managed in line with PMO and project methodologies (reports, actions log and programme)
  • Build and cement good relationships with stakeholders 
  • Hold regular 1-2-1s with each team member, undertaking development reviews in line with objectives
  • Support team members in making decisions in a timely manner
  • Critique design and installation process to achieve economical product and install costs
  • Support the design to ensure all aspects of the product life is considered and business needs are met
  • Work closely with the installer to ensure any issues with products are resolved in a timely manner
  • Consider HSEQ at all points

Qualifications

  • Essential
  • Engineering Degree or equivalent
  • Professional Qualification in project management desired
