Tourists in London – how many and where do they come from?
Recently reported Trip Advisor figures show that London is the most reviewed city on the planet. Over half a million reviews about establishments in London were posted in 2014, a timely reminder of how important both domestic and international visitors are to the capital’s economy.
In 2013, the last full year for which records are available, 16.8 million visitors came to visit London, with the USA (1.8m), France (1.8m) and Germany (1.3m) being the most common countries of origin according to the Office for National Statistics. Interestingly though, it’s visitors from Kuwait, Russia and Nigeria that spend the most per capita.
Out of Home media is one of the few ways to reach tourists in London. Next time you’re out and about in town, have a look around and observe just how many advertisements on the tube and the buses are aimed, at least in part, at this key consumer group.
