Category Sales Director - Retail

This is a senior client focused role, with the core remit of increasing Exterion Media’s revenue and share performance within the Retail advertising categories.
You will drive and promote commercial opportunities, by coordinating sales efforts across the entire Exterion Media estate. You will be the glue that brings all the separate disciplines together when targeting the Retail sector from a Client perceptive.
You will be brand and discipline neutral, with the key business focus to influence and sell, not to implement.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Increase Exterion Media’s revenue and share of the Retail advertising category, by identifying and targeting new and underperforming Clients within the category; as well as maintaining existing relationships within the category as whole
  • Key to delivering YoY revenue growth will be in establishing and driving Client and PR relationships across the Retail category. 
  • Elicit briefs which would not otherwise come to Exterion Media, driving incremental revenue. 
  • The Retail Category Director will shape Exterion Media’s strategy for the Retail category, outlining key targets and focus proactive resource to ensure Exterion Media gets the biggest win.
  • Articulate the benefits of the OOH medium and Exterion Media’s platform offering, acting as a key conduit in bringing expertise from around Exterion Media, both commercial and franchise, to the target Client list.
  • Maintain, develop and share in-depth understanding of the Retail category with other advertising sales teams, in order to capitalise on the knowledge, with the aim to generate increased revenue in all areas and maximise marketing initiatives and special projects.
  • Regularly visit exhibitions, fairs, launches relating to the Retail category. Organising appropriate category events, client entertaining and presentations for the sector.
  • Working with the resource of the Creative Solutions Team to actively seek new commercial channels within the business, either by focusing on individual products or leveraging the power of the Exterion portfolio.

Individual Attributes 
  • Experienced media professional with at least 10+ years experience in advertising with excellent contacts across the industry.
  • Ideally 4+ years of operating within the Retail advertising categories would be beneficial, with the expectation that you would already have strong existing category contacts. 
  • Very strong communication skills and ability to talk both the client and agency language and operating at a senior level. Comfortable conducting board level conversations both internally and externally. 
  • You will have a broad knowledge of all media and how these media work together as the role will be predominately brand and discipline neutral
  • You should also be knowledgeable and experienced in how to engage in the wider marketing discussions rather than just media sales. 
  • Results orientated, commercial and possesses strategic thinking.
  • A strong team player with the ability to influence and interact at all levels, using both written and verbal communication.
