Make a Wish

Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail is delighted to once again support Make-A-Wish® Ireland this Christmas and to host fundraising events in Heuston, Connolly, and Pearse Station throughout the run-up to Christmas.

Make-A-Wish® Ireland will have many choirs and groups in each of the stations to provide a Christmas atmosphere for Commuters and most importantly collect essential donations to help grant the wishes of children aged between 3 and 17 who are battling life threatening illnesses.

Susan O’Dwyer, Chief Executive, Make-A-Wish® Ireland, said:
“We are delighted to partner with Iarnród Éireann again this year for the ‘Carols for Commuters’ fundraising event.  Last year, we raised almost €14,000 and we are so grateful to everyone who donated. At the moment, we have over 200 children waiting for their wish to be granted so we are hoping that commuters will be even more generous this year. A wish can strengthen the whole family and influence the physical and emotional health of a wish child, replacing fear with happiness and helping them to feel like a normal kid again. With the help of commuters and the volunteer singers, musicians and bucket collectors, we can make extraordinary moments happen for these brave children. ”

Barry Kenny, Manager, Corporate Communications. Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail said:
“We are delighted to support Make-A-Wish® Ireland as our chosen charity and to help in some way with their aim of granting wishes and making dreams to come true for children. With 500,000 people expected to travel by Intercity in the lead-up to Christmas, and 100,000 commuters travelling in the Dublin area daily, we encourage all our customers  to support Make-A-Wish Ireland by donating what they can however small to the collection points in our stations this Christmas, as Make-A-Wish create a special Christmas atmosphere for commuters.”

Since its inception in Ireland in 1992, Make-A-Wish has granted wishes to almost 1,600 brave children.   ‘Carols for Commuters’ runs from Friday 8th December until Monday 22nd December. Anyone interested in supporting Make-A-Wish can also donate online at
