Bus leads in the search for Northern Ireland’s High Street Heroes

After another turbulent year, locally based retail business organisation, Retail NI, has launched a search for Northern Ireland’s High Street Heroes with bus advertising driving calls for the public to vote for their favourite independent retailer.

Retail NI President, Peter McBride, said:

“We are delighted to launch High Street Heroes NI to highlight and celebrate the huge contribution independent retailers make to our local high streets and the economy. We’ve once again enlisted the help of bus advertising to drive awareness of the campaign and encourage consumers to vote for their favourite independent retailer and high street.”

The campaign was officially launched on Tuesday 29th June by Northern Ireland’s First Minister, Paul Givan and deputy First Minister, Michelle O’Neill with a Translink Metro bus proudly acting as a backdrop for the photo call.

High Street Heroes NI formally begins on Independents’ Day on 4 July but early voting has already opened. The campaign sees Retail NI join forces once again with the Irish News and is supported by Camelot and Translink.

Chris Conway, Translink Group Chief Executive, said:

"It's never been more important to support our local independent retailers and we're ready to bring more people into cities, towns and villages to enjoy the fantastic choice, quality and personal touch on offer. Translink is committed to delivering a greener recovery and building back responsibly with robust safety measures in place across our bus and rail services to protect and reassure everyone on their journeys."

Sarah Jane Stevenson from Exterion Media said:

“There have been so many businesses and individuals across independent retail in Northern Ireland who have stepped up to support their local communities as we continue to navigate our ever-changing world. It’s so important to recognise their contribution and we’re delighted bus advertising can play a key role in the search for this year’s High Street Heroes by driving awareness and calls for the public to vote.”

High Street Heroes NI is looking for heroes across 12 different categories, shoppers can vote until early August for their favourite convenience store, deli, butcher, off-licence, Covid-19 champion, and several other types of independent retailer via
