Mental Health Awareness Week 2017

Mental Health Awareness at Exterion Media
Once again Exterion Media has been a proud supporter of Mental Health Awareness Week, with an array of different sessions taking place at our offices. With this year’s theme “Surviving or Thriving” we have learned to view mental health from a new angle. Rather than ask why so many people are living with mental health problems, we’re uncovering why so few of us are thriving with good mental health.

The sessions throughout the week included:

  • A keynote address by former professional footballer Clark Carlisle, discussing his life-long battle with depression and mental health and the work that is needed to break the stigma about mental health.
  • The Book People returned to our HQ, Lacon London, with a range of books on health, lifestyle, well-being and more.
  • Mental Health First Aid training for staff members - a crucial knowledge base to help ourselves and others deal with mental health issues.

  • We wrapped up the week with a physically interactive day, including various activities such as yoga, Tai Chi and even Massage Angels providing 10-minute massages. The day aimed to relieve the week’s stresses and tensions for staff members.

The current stigma around mental health in today’s society makes it difficult to discuss openly. However, last week provided a lot more insight into how to discuss, as well as handle, mental health.
